TERPware is a software distribution service for University of Maryland students, faculty, and staff. TERPware offers a wide variety of software packages at no charge, including site-licensed products from Adobe, Microsoft, and other vendors. Software packages include programs for operating systems, office applications, and anti-virus. The university pays for the licenses through agreements with vendors; this allows students, faculty, and staff to use the programs available through TERPware free of charge. The TERPware server is regularly updated, so patches and upgrades for UMD-supported software are consistently available.

Google Drive

G Suite Drive is online storage integrated with your other university G Suite accounts. Save your work files to Drive and use Docs, Sheets, and Slides to edit them. You can share with co-workers and edit the same file at the same time, showing revisions and comments. Because Drive is integrated with G Suite Mail, you can now save attachments directly to Drive. Plus, with unlimited storage, you never have to worry about saving or uploading too much. G Suite products are compliant with the requirements of the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP). FedRAMP is the cloud security standard of the U.S. government. G Suite is authorized for use by federal agencies for data with a “Moderate” impact level, such as PII and Controlled Unclassified Information. It is also compliant with the U.S. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). However, the following kinds of data should not be stored in G Suite Drive:
  • Federal Tax Information
  • Student Loan Application Information (GLBA)
  • Social Security Numbers
  • Protected Health Information (HIPAA) Data
  • Personal Identifiable Information (PII)
  • Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) Data
  • Credit Card or Payment Card Industry (PCI) Information Data
  • US Export Controlled Data

Box is a cloud-based storage and collaboration system that provides a Web interface for uploading, downloading, sharing, and discussing files. Box is designed to work on Macs, PCs, smartphones, and tablets, so it gives you access to your files from just about anywhere.

UMD Box accounts are hosted by Box and managed by UMD’s Division of IT. All rights and responsibilities established in the UMD Policy on the Acceptable Use of IT Resources apply to the UMD Box service.

Faculty and staff users of this service should be aware of the limitations on the types of data that may be stored in a Box account.

Current students, faculty, and staff are eligible for a UMD Box account. Individual accounts have 50 GB of space.

Organizational accounts are also available for colleges/departments, student groups, and other groups affiliated with the university.

Please note that creating a UMD Box account will share limited personal information (name and UMD email address) with members of the UMD community.

Cisco Webex

Webex includes integrated voice through your computer, on-campus dial-in at x50600 and through a global network of dial-in numbers. Webex enables faculty, staff, and students to meet with internal and external colleagues over the Internet using multi-party conferencing and screen sharing. WebEx is designed to work on PCs, Macs, smartphones, and tablets. Webex provides three “centers”:

  • Meeting Center – Video conferencing in your personal virtual meeting room or in a scheduled room
  • Training Center – Lectures, labs and breakout sessions online
  • Event Center – Large “broadcast” events and webinars

Instructors or room “owners” control how others can communicate within the room; modes include: voice, video, presentations, and chat. Proceedings of a WebEx session can be recorded and shared with students within the ELMS course space via a link to the WebEx service.

Qualtrics allows you to create, test, and execute high-quality on-line surveys.  It provides a wide range of question types and formatsdifferent strategies for distributing and following up with targeted respondents,  and a suite of analysis and reporting tools.
